Hey guys! Thanks for checking out this page to learn a little more about how we started Willowfields. It is long but tells all about us!!
My name is Morgan. I am 25 years old and married to the love of my life Cody since January 2010. Almost 7 years! Together we have 3 beautiful amazing kids together. 1 girl and 2 little boys. Our daughter just started kindergarten this year, so big change for our family! Before I started Etsy back in 2013 I was a stay at home mom while Cody worked at a Steel mill. We in the beautiful state of Arkansas!
I started Willowfields on Etsy back in 2013. I began selling fold over elastic that I designed and sold as a wholesaler for people to make hair ties and headbands out of. I did this for about a year and then stopped and started selling off my stock in October 2014.
I have always been a very crafty person. Growing up all I ever asked for were the little craft kits they have at hobby lobby. I use to scrapbook with my mother as well and always had so much fun doing it! So in December 2014 I was watching a beauty guru on Youtube telling about her monthly favorites. Guess what she mentioned, an Erin Condren planner!! I was instantly hooked. So I of course asked for one for Christmas. I was so excited when I opened it and couldn't wait to start planning. Which looking back now is COMPLETELY different from what it is today!!
January 2015 I started looking around for ideas on how others decorated and used the Erin Condren planner. I was of course looking on Pinterest as well all do. Then I came across..... PLANNER STICKERS!! So I ordered from a few shops. However I have always been that person to say "I can make that" oppose to buying it. So I started to do my research. Searching around on Youtube for countless hours and finally came across the Silhouette Cameo cutting machine. All I had to do now was talk the hubs into letting me buy a $300 machine that cuts paper, no problem!!
Before I bought my first silhouette in January, I downloaded the design software for free and started to design sticker sheets. Oh I forgot to mention that I am currently 7 months pregnant with our youngest Oren. On January 27, 2015 I reopened my shop Willowfields on Etsy to begin selling planner stickers. I began marketing on Instagram. It has just grown from there!
In August 2015 we had grown to much for me to just run the shop myself with 3 kids at home. Cody worked a 4 on 4 off schedule at the steel mill and would help the complete 4 days he was off with the sticker shop. We had to make the decision though, if we wanted to grow the business to where we wanted it to be he would have to leave and run full time with me. Of course we were very nervous about this decision. Any person would be. But I read a quote that said "The most successful people in life are the ones who take the most risk." Then I just knew! If we wanted to grow Willowfields to what we dreamed it to be, we would have to make the big move! We did and it has been the best decision for our Company.
We became a Willowfields Co. in September 2015. We also started selling our custom gold clips in September as well! So Cody and I have been running the shop together with all 3 kids at home with us the past year.
January 2016 we bought 22 acres in NW Arkansas. We built ourselves, okay Cody built, our 700 sq ft tiny house. Yay for no rent! We moved in the day before Eslee, our oldest, started school for Kindergarten. Yes we do live a very crazy life.
During the summer, Cody and I started throwing ideas around on doing our own website. Etsy is a great place to start, but we felt that it was time to move onto our own platform. With Etsy you are very limited to the items you sell. With Willowfields, we want to bring more then just stickers, and Etsy didn't allow some of the items we want to offer. So August 2016 we made the big leap onto our own website. BEST DECISION WE HAVE EVER MADE FOR OUR BUSINESS!!!!!! If you are a business owner on Etsy as well and have been thinking about doing the same for several months like we did. I have some advice. DO IT!!
What's to come for the future? Currently we are in the process of opening our first store front in Huntsville, AR. Plans are to have it up and running before Thanksgiving.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little about us and how we started out. I am not a good writer and English was not my best subject. But math, now that I can do!
We want to also say how thankful we are for each and everyone of our customers! You have truly changed our lives for the better, and we hope that our products your buy help brighten up and make your planners look fabulous! It's going to be pretty awesome in a few years when all of us "crazy planner ladies" can flip back through each week and cherish how much time we put into our planners. So never stop creating!!
